Asavie Moda helps organizations extend security and productivity controls to the office

DUBLIN, Ireland, September 21, 2016: Asavie, the provider of next-generation enterprise mobility management and Internet of Things (IoT) connectivity solutions released today the latest version of its Asavie Moda solution. Asavie Moda delivers a mobile strategy for businesses, enabling improved productivity, better security, and effective cost management of mobile assets. The latest release of Asavie Moda includes a new App Control feature offering enterprises improved insights and security controls into the mobile apps used by its mobile workforce, along with the ability to define an organization’s mandatory business apps, and determine which devices are missing these apps. Additionally, the latest release of Asavie Moda enables organizations to send Push Notifications and SMS directly from the platform. This helps to effectively engage mobile employees – whether to communicate an urgent IT message, or an alert about a security incident.

Asavie Moda’s new App Control feature enables the management of mobile apps available on smartphones and tablets. Asavie Moda’s new App Control offers:

  • Insights: delivers improved insights into the mobile apps used by the mobile workforce. For example, employers can see if employees have the LinkedIn app as a networking tool.
  • Mandatory business apps: offers the ability to define an organization’s mandatory business apps and shows which devices are missing these applications. Organizations can ensure employees have the right business tools on their devices, such as Salesforce or Docusign.
  • Permitted business apps: offers the ability to define permitted business apps and shows which devices are outside of the corporate policy. For example, it would deny apps that pose a security risk like Dropbox for cloud storage.

By effectively managing mobile data, Asavie has found enterprises can save on average $210 on each user per month. Additionally, the effective management of data and apps, avoids rogue mobile data charges which employees can incur while travelling. A customer recently signed up for Asavie Moda after they incurred a bill of $23,000 for an employee who removed their employee phone SIM and inserted it into another smartphone while abroad. If the organization had leveraged Asavie Moda they would not have incurred this charge. With Asavie Moda, policies are applied on the network level, based on the SIM associated with the user. This means it is tamperproof, while employees might change their devices, governance policies will still apply ensuring effective cost management and improved security.

The issue of apps and mobile security breaches is an ongoing challenge for organizations. Dionisio Zumerle and Nathan Hill from Gartner note, “Since enterprise users adopted tablets and smartphones it became clear that protecting data with traditional endpoint management models, attempting to mimic laptop management, is incompatible with new OSs and use cases.”[1]

To avoid compromising a company’s security, organizations need to effectively manage how their employees are using mobile devices, and specifically control how they are using mobile apps. Otherwise they run the risk of leaking sensitive enterprise data, as well as leaving the organization open to mobile security breaches.

Ralph Shaw, CEO, Asavie, said, “With the number of smart phones and devices on the increase organizations need to effectively manage employee mobile app usage while protecting enterprise security. Asavie Moda’s new App Control enables organizations to define and monitor how its employees are using mobile apps which puts businesses in control – allowing them to leverage apps, align business goals and avoid excessive charges.”

Asavie Moda’s Office DNS

The updated version of Asavie Moda also includes Office DNS which enables enterprises to control the volume and type of websites staff can access in the office. By managing the type of websites staff can access, while automatically filtering malicious, offensive and high-risk content, enterprises protect company data, ensuring employee safety, as well as improving productivity.
